Don't shove anything into a baby or child's mouth. What are you thinking!! [ Reply | More ]

I liked Ferber's book. People knock Ferber, but if you read the book it's actually very sane, commonsense advice about setting appropriate limits and breaking sleep associations (like nursing to sleep). I think he might say you can't do much until almost 6 months, though! [ Reply | More ]

I don't knock Ferber. I knock those parents that force a kid to self-soothe as soon as possible. [ Reply | More ]

Honey, nature gave you boobs for exactly that. The kid is only seven weeks old. If you don't like it give him a bottle instead. [ Reply | More ]

op: she was diagnosed with relux. she burps easier since she has been on zantac, one week. yes, i let her go to town on a single breast for at least 30 min [ Reply | More ]

i hate to say it but you may just have to ride this out. both my kids had some multi-hour marathon nursings at that age and often needed to nurse to sleep. it passed. but its worth trying different pacis, if you haven't. [ Reply | More ]

some babies are like that. my second would NOT take pacifier or suck thumb. drove me out of my mind. he nursed like crazy for first six months. i pumped as much as i could, in addition. you can't let a 7 week old cry, you have to do the best you can. maybe she'll start sucking her thumb once she's coordinated enough. my daughter sucked her thumb and it made everything so much easeir, once she got the hang of it. Hang in there - this was my life a few weeks ago and now at 10 weeks, DS is starting to use a pacifier to help fall asleep. [ Reply | More ]

Neither of my kids ever used a pacifier or adopted a transitional object. Both slept in a family bed and nursed on demand for the first year with occasional comfort nursing thereafter. Both used the potty when they decided to as opposed to on anyone else's scheduled. Both continue to be strong, self-directed, confident, seek the counsel of their parents. They are both top students at the two most selective public schools in the city. Entering their teens, neither needs to suck to sleep or uses a family bed. They're normal, healthy (very healthy), well-adjusted kids. I attribute a lot of their success to their confidence that we will always be there for them. That started with nursing all the time. Get good at nursing baby in a sling. Buy motherwear shirts & dresses. Relax. [ Reply | More ]

Please explain. Why can't your children nurse on demand at least at night, sleep in your bed, or what not? This is indeed possible for most families if they wanted it. It definitely works for us and we both work FT and what not. Is it hard? Hell, yes. Is it fun? Sometimes. But we signed up for this and have to deal with it. [ Reply | More ]
