What is a realistic estimate of the number of spots at TT schools that are open for non-siblings, non-legacy applicants? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

less than 50% of actual spots -- sometimes a lot less (Trinity, St. Ann's). Hard to quantify further, as it depends on school and the preference given to sibs/legs/other connected people. [ Reply | More ]

That is just silly. There are way more spots than that! [ Reply | More ]

I think this is more or less accurate--it obviously varies by school, but it's hard to dispute when you know places like St. Ann's had only 3 non-sib/non-leg boys spots last year. [ Reply | More ]

np and I think it is the sibs more than the legs who take up space. [ Reply | More ]

Have you gone through the process? All of the popular schools had at least 50% of the spots already spoken for this past year. St. Ann's had something like 6 spots for unconnected applicants (out of 60). Many schools have pre-K's, so spots fill up that way as well. [ Reply | More ]

I think as far as this thread is concerned, sibs and legacy, as this is what OP specifically stated in her post. [ Reply | More ]

Yes twice. In our class we are the only legacy family. it is 20% siblings and that is it [ Reply | More ]

maybe not at SS schools which have less siblings, but at co-ed schools siblings are often close to half of the class. [ Reply | More ]

But the coed schools have classes more than twice the size of SS so it is all relative [ Reply | More ]

Allen-Stevenson had fewer than 10 spots this year after sibs and legacies. May be different in other years. [ Reply | More ]

Spence could nearly have filled class of 2021 if all sibs and legs were accepted. Varies year to year everywhere. [ Reply | More ]

I don't agree with poster above. I would think this would help to some degree, assuming your dc's application is strong and playdate is good. [ Reply | More ]

just curious, as in this position (haven't decided even to apply to this school, but if we do... have 7 cousins who have attended/currently attend, my uncle is on the board and my aunt is a teacher... that's got to make a bit of difference, right?) [ Reply | More ]

yes, that's what is usually meant by connected applicants who are not sibs and legs. [ Reply | More ]

so that would likely help in applying? (know nothing about this, have a 1yo and don't even want to THINK about schools at this point, but people have been asking me if I'll be applying there) [ Reply | More ]

sure, it would help, assuming good ERBs, school report and playdate. [ Reply | More ]

If the school is St Anns how would it factor (as no ERBs, school report) [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.23.08, 01:59 PM Flag

St. Ann's requires a school report. They ask that you send ERBs if your dc has taken the test, but your dc would have to do well on the SB St. Ann's administers. [ Reply | More ]

That will only help you turn a wl into an accept. Won't help turn a rj into an accept. Kid has to be qualified. [ Reply | More ]
