Argh. Trying to name this kid is driving me mad. It was so easy to pick a name for ds1, but ds2 is just impossible. DH must have fallen asleep watching Thomas the Tank Engine -- his latest list of names he'll consider includes Thomas, Henry, Edward, and James. He even mentioned Percy the other day. I wish I were joking. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

They are very nice names. I guess I just don't *love* any of them and am annoyed because I feel like DH is phoning it in a bit with those choices. I liked Hugo and Teddy/Theodore. Both strongly nixed by DH. [ Reply | More ]

OP: According to DH, if we use Teddy the kid should be named Edward. Honestly, I have no idea what he has against Theodore. Sigh. [ Reply | More ]

I have a Theodore. We go by the Greek nickname Theo (rhymes with Leo.) The German nickname for Theodore is spelled the same, Theo but it is pronounced (tay-oh.) [ Reply | More ]

Boy names are hard! Picking a name for our daughter was a piece of cake by comparison. There just aren't that many boy names that I like, so finding one that we both like is tough. Plus, all the names that I do like are either an ex-bf's name or already in use in the family or have become super-trendy in the last few years. [ Reply | More ]

np. If you both love it I really wouldn't stop you using it. Unless maybe it's a really unusual name that makes it look like you named dc after the guy at work. [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't make more out of it than you need to. I'm sure he won't think you are naming your dc after him. Not sure what you could say to him without it sounding odd. [ Reply | More ]

Totally. My boss (for a job I had in college) and his wife named their daughter my name. All I thought was that I was glad they liked me enough that I hadn't turned them off the name! (I also have a fairly common name.) [ Reply | More ]

Fyi, Kai (in NYC, anyway) is very overdone. At least the classics don't "claim" to be original; Kai et al do, but in many cases they've become completely commonplace. [ Reply | More ]
