moms who had number 2--conceived number 2--at 38 or older, tell me I'm not nuts for waiting. Just not quite ready yet at 37 but feeling the pressure. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

planning to try in the spring, like March/April (I will be very newly 38 then) for a whole bunch of reasons. [ Reply | More ]

Will you be okay if it's not a linear process? In other words, you might not conceive right away. Or once you conceive, you could miscarry. [ Reply | More ]

It was not a linear process last time--had 2 m/cs before we realized I had a clotting problem, but once fixed easy easy pg. I got pg. 1x all three times, but lost a year due to m/cs. [ Reply | More ]

The clotting problem would make me nervous about waiting. That said, I am totally ignorant about it. If you think the approach you used last time will work just fine, then it wouldn't be a factor. [ Reply | More ]

yeah--that's what OB said. We know what it is, so no big deal. It's not something that gets worse over time or anything like that. [ Reply | More ]

If you are sure you want one why not ttc sooner than later. I had much more trouble at 36 than 33. Also tried to plan it perfectly buit that didn't work out too well. [ Reply | More ]

a lot of reasons. moving abroad for a year, I have some issues which mean I would feel more comfortable doing it here where I had #1. Also I think DH and I are not quite recovered enough from #1 to do it right now. I know a lot of people who did it fast b/c of age and their marriages collapsed under the weight of 2 under 3 or whatever. [ Reply | More ]

makes sense. I just tried ot plan mine since we also weren't ready and had other stuff going on and it took longer than expected to get pg and I was pretty down from that. happy now since pg though. [ Reply | More ]

yeah, this is me, basically. it's very hard to think about it clearly. also seems wrong to rush into it if we're not ready. are you thinking about doing it sometime next year? [ Reply | More ]

i know it sucks not having time on our side. honestly, i've been avoiding the whole issue. i don't think i'm fully used to having the 1, although i love her dearly. [ Reply | More ]

had 1st at 38 (got pg first try, no issues) and expecting no. 2 in 3 weeks -- after 2 miscarriages and a referral to a fertility doctor. I thought because I had such an easy time at age 37 (getting pregnant) that it would still be OK. Definitely felt the effect of time, but if you're not ready, you're not ready! [ Reply | More ]

Would you be okay to have just one? Or to have to resort to various fertility methods? I had #1 at 37 this year and will definitely wait, but I'm actually okay if we only have one child. [ Reply | More ]

I got pg quite by accident at 44. My third -- don't worry too much because worrying has an effect too. [ Reply | More ]

had dc #1 at 33 and waited until I was almost 39 to try for #2. will have a 6-year difference in age with dcs, but I just wasn't ready prior to that. [ Reply | More ]

My mom had me at 38 and my sister at 39, no problem. That said, DH and I are TTC at 33, and I'm becoming very stressed. You definitely never know if you'll have problems, so if you are married and financially stable, I'd just start at least casually trying now. [ Reply | More ]

Don't try casually if you're not ready. It could very easily happen on the first try. [ Reply | More ]

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm 37 with a 3 year old. I really want another, but my husband isn't sure yet, so I have to wait it out I guess. [ Reply | More ]
