you need to be aware that the TT privates administer their own test, yes IQ, on the dcs during playdate. They know like we do that the ERB is not the holy grail of I they want to confirm in the face of prepping etc. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

in some cases yes and in some cases only part of one, but they really only need one part to determine if the dc just had a good erb test day or if dc is really bright [ Reply | More ]

Based on what DS told me he did at one playdate - I concur. He aced most sections of ERB but tanked coding. He was asked to do written coding-type task at one playdate. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. [ Reply | More ]

WHICH is why is it such B.S. to call it a PLAYDATE when in fact they want the kids to be like zombies. [ Reply | More ]

I don't get your use of the word "zombies." One example of what op is talking about is Dalton. The kids do a rhyming game, a puzzle, listen to a story and answer questions about it. A zombie would not do well at any of that except maybe the puzzle. [ Reply | More ]

The OR is a bitter public school parent. That is why she would like to believe that privates want kids to be like zombies. FWIW, Dalton actually just came to my dc's preschool and observed the children at school. The Dalton admissions people who visited did not even interact wih the children. [ Reply | More ]

Right, but kids who go to some schools have to go to Dalton. Other schools, have ERB, do an onsite IQ test & come and observe at dc's school [ Reply | More ]

each child picked an object out of a bag and then then had to say something that rhymed with the object. my dd said one child picked out an object that looked like a toilet to one child and when the child said that, all the kids started laughing. No idea what it actually was b/c to my dd that was soooo not the point of the story. [ Reply | More ]

NBS called it what it was, an evaluation. I respected them for that, though it was not my favorite girls' school [ Reply | More ]

Any parent who has dc take the ERB, goes on parent interview and brings dc to schools for playdates should not be compaining if schools do some form of IQ testing on the dc. How is that inconsistent with the whole process? If you don't want to be in it, don't do it at all. [ Reply | More ]
