Private Preschool Q (Parents out of town in September): We are planning to get 2009 applications this coming September. We’ll be in the City during the first week of September, but plan to be out of town from the second week. I know we have to call schools to get applications the day after Labor Day, but do we need to stay around after that? Would leaving town around the 2nd week of September create a problem? Could not get advice from Parents League as it is closed for summer. Thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I can help you. You need to call the schools the day after Labor Day and send in the applications soon after. They will then call you to schedule your interviews and you need to be around to schedule them. You can easily schedule them for after you are home, but I would check your home voice mail and return the calls from vacation. Bring a calendar so you can set up the appointments. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks for your advice. We are planning to be in a jungle in Central America for a week - I’m afraid that we may not have good cell reception or landline to check messages. We have to think about postponing this trip. [ Reply | More ]
