Not so sure about price, but a doula is supposed to be there to care for the mother and baby and baby nurse is strictly for baby duties (no pun intended!) [ Reply | More ]

np: good definition. doula for mom, baby nurse for baby. Also, I think baby nurses often stay all night and are more expensive because they have some kind of nursing degree. [ Reply | More ]

Just to clarify, baby nurses do not actually have a nursing degree. They usually have training in infant CPR, and have attended a short training course in infant and child health. [ Reply | More ]

doula will do for you whatever you need: cook a meal, do laundry, in addition to baby-related needs. Mine was very helpful/encouraging with breast-feeding too [ Reply | More ]

Doula performs the functions that family women and community members used to. Supports you however you need/want. Is sometimes knowledgeable about lactation. Baby nurse takes away your baby and tells you what to do. [ Reply | More ]

"Baby nurse" seems to be a Jewish-American tradition, particularly in the Northeast. Doula is more a crunchy granola tradition. Roles tend to overlap, depending on person. (To previous ORs- baby nurses will cook, etc.) Main difference seems to be Baby Nurse is there to care for baby, Doula for mommy. But major overlap nonetheless [ Reply | More ]
