New here. I keep on reading about high ERB scores. So how many kids a year score 99x3? 99? 98? 95+? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

99: my guess based on posts by UBers in the past couple of years (some claimed to have gotten # from ERB) is under 100 (which makes sense since SB is harder to get 99 and SB produces about 50-60 kids scoring 99 each year). Not sure about 98 but maybe double the number of kids getting 99 (which would be mathematically true but who knows). 95+? I'm guessing close to 1000. [ Reply | More ]

DS got a 99 SB last fall and a 98 (99/98/98) ERB this spring (fall birthday). [ Reply | More ]

I know there are always cases like that but as a general rule, it is true. SB has a higher ceiling. [ Reply | More ]

Oh, I am not disagreeing with you and wish it were the case with ds! As best I can figure he did miss a 99x3 by one point (low 99 performance, highest possible 98 for verbal, for 124 total and 125 appears to be a 99) [ Reply | More ]

OP: I'm not a math major, but I would think that beating 95% of the pool of 3000 would yield 150. What am I missing? It just seems from UB that more than 150 get 95+ and more than 30 get 99. Is there a school administrator in the houses to comment!?!?!? [ Reply | More ]

It is closer to 400/500 [ Reply | More ]

I really don't think 5% of kids get 99. [ Reply | More ]

ERBS are normed *nationally*. Kids living in trailer parks or foster homes or with uneducated parents or developmental delays are included. The group of kids taking WPPSI--III for erb tend to have well educated parents, so you'll see more kids scoring in the top percentiles than you would if the group of test takers wasn't homogeneous. I've heard 5% of NYC kids get 99. Not sure about 99x3, though I know two kid who did (one of whom was my dc). [ Reply | More ]

That is NOT true. If it is, then there were 150 kids who got 99 last year and no way there were that many. [ Reply | More ]

Actually, I wouldn't be shocked if it were 150 or more. If the SB gets 50-60, over twice as many people take the ERB, meaning probably at least 100 99's, and I'd bet there's up to 50 or so more easily since it's considered a (slightly) easier test. Manhattan has a ton of very highly educated (and presumably intelligent) parents, who tend to produce very high-scoring kids, esp. at this early age. [ Reply | More ]

I am so relieved my kid didn't have to take ERB's (we're not in NYC). I can't imagine him doing well on them at that age. [ Reply | More ]

No one really knows. Well, I would imagine the ERB knows. [ Reply | More ]

I'd guess fewer than 1% (30 kids) get 99x3. [ Reply | More ]

NP: DOA at one of the TTs we applied to last year specifically commented on DC's 99x3 score. Must not be that common. [ Reply | More ]

We also had one doa comment on dc's 99x3. Not at tt, though--none of them said anything (and they all had the score by the time we interviewed). Said we'd have our "pick" of schools based on dc and that score. Wasn't quite true (didn't get in everywhere), but did get two tts (including fc). [ Reply | More ]

So, if you get 99x3 on SB and ERB both, you'd be in a dozen kids or something. [ Reply | More ]

I think the overlap is higher - alot of the 99x3 kids probably also got 99 on the SB. OLSAT was a different story. But I bet there's only a dozen or so who got 99x3ERB, 99 SB, 99 OLSAT. [ Reply | More ]
