For parents with DCs in selective public middle schools: What should I be doing now to help my 3rd-grader? She is a good student, has a good attitude about school. What do middle schools look for--just ELA/math scores mostly? Also, did you prep at all for these tests? Thank you! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

We have a girl at East Side Middle. Scores and grades are important. We didn't prep for any tests. Tried for Anderson but didn't get in. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's the math that matters most when testing for Anderson Middle...do well and then they'll read the essay. Same for Hunter High. [ Reply | More ]

np; every other kid can read and write pretty well. Math - not so much. [ Reply | More ]

The schools also look for attendance and tardy records, especially in 4th grade and early 5th, so just be aware of that. Some selective middle schools like if you have a "talent", too, like music, so if your dd plays an instrument, that's a plus. [ Reply | More ]
