not sure, i guess if i really loved the house. we had a house once that only had a/c upstairs for bedrooms. no a/c on middle level with dining/living/kitchen and i honestly didn't mind. we just used ceiling fans to cool it down. [ Reply | More ]

I did HVAC earlier in my life. It is not that hard to do if somebody else is doing the work but retrofitting CA to a home WITHOUT tearing up a lot of walls or creating soffetts(sp?) all over the place can be really hard. It depends on the floor plan of the home in question. That said, there are new technologies which make it much easier to put a/c throughout a house without actually putting in central air.
