having computer glitches here... wwyd if your child had an English teacher who assigned lots of vocab and tested on it, and fairly often had totally incorrect defs for words? I mean maybe 4 percent of the time, but that is enough. Some of the defs she gives are FAR off. Some are even the opposite of the real def. Then the students have to match the words with HER given defs on the tests for credit. Private NYC btw, middle school, 7th 8th grade English teacher. Should I tell the administration of the school? The kids with good vocabs know it is happening and are afraid to say anything to the teacher. [ Reply | More ]

That's just horrible. Did you bring it up with the teacher last year? [ Reply | More ]

it has been brought up directly by me (to the teacher) and I understand by others too, and her behavior does not change. She seems to have an unusually poor vocab (for an English teacher) and it would not be a prob if she realized it and took steps to check before teaching vocab to her students. [ Reply | More ]

Then, yes, I would speak to the administration about her. Take the tests with you, or the worksheets. Isn't 7th, 8th grade getting too old for vocab tests? [ Reply | More ]

I'm surprised the teacher is writing her own vocab tests. My dc's school uses Wordly Wise. I would talk to the head of the English department first, division head second. I would do this in person, bringing examples. All the other personal stuff you mention on other board is irrelevant. Keep it impersonal and professional. [ Reply | More ]

this post sounds fake in so many ways. I just do not find it believable. [ Reply | More ]
