Any vegetarians around? Have you chosen vegetarianism for your children? My oldest (7yo) is vegetarian by choice, even though I tried to get him to eat meat. Now I can't decide what I want to do about my 6mo. Both me and dh are veg. Opinions? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I am a vegetarian and so is dc. It never even crossed my mind to feed her meat. When she is older, she is free to become a meat eater [ Reply | More ]

children need fat and protein. do not go vegetarian with your 6mo. first, i think it's something people should all choose on their own. second, i'd check with your pediatrician as to when it's a healthy alternative. there's just no amount of cheese or beans or nuts that will give the proper fat for brain development. That is not true at all. Whole milk, cheese, eggs, etc certainly will. That is a silly and misinformed thing to say. You do know that millions of highly intelligent & successful people were raised from infanthood as vegetarians, don't you? [ Reply | More ]

i agree. this nonsense that beans are going to take care of a growing child's needs is untrue and those poor kids' brains are malnourished, IMO [ Reply | More ]

Good thing that your opinion is wrong and not backed up by medical science. FWIW, vegetarians eat eggs & cheese. [ Reply | More ]

My 2 yo is basically a vegetarian. He really has a strong meat aversion and has since he was a baby. DH and I definitely eat meat (although I don't really love it and usually choose veggie options when we are out, so maybe ds gets it from me?). I was concerned about iron and protein but my ped said that as long as he was eating iron fortified bkfast cereal as well as dairy and meat alternatives it was just fine. (He loves eggs, yogurt, cheese, peanut butter, lentil soup.) [ Reply | More ]

my husband and i are pescatarian (we eat fish, but no meat) and that's how the whole family eats. my older kid is 7 and if he wants to choose meat for himself at thsi age, its fine by me, but i'm not cooking it. FWIW he is, if anything, more vegetarian than I am. [ Reply | More ]
