I really don't mean to generalize or be offensive, but honestly it seems the Indian and Pakistani children I know in NY are generally out of control. Is there a cultural reason for this? Why are these children not disciplined? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

That has not been my experience. My Indian neighbors are among the strictest parents I've ever met. [ Reply | More ]

Really? Indian kids are the best kids I know. So well behaved, really smart in school, great values and just lovely all around. [ Reply | More ]

You are generalizing and being offensive. WIW, most of the Indian and Pakinstani dc that I know are extremely well-behaved, although that is also generalizing. [ Reply | More ]

op: I am not racist, although I knew I would get this reaction. I know about 6 DCs who fit this description and they all have the common characteristic of not knowing when to talk or not (I am talking 5-6 year olds, not younger), demanding things incessantly even when told no that they can't have something, and most importantly, these behaviors occur in the parents' presence and the parents say nothing. If it were me, I would tell my DC to stop. [ Reply | More ]

I would imagine it is more about the lower standards of the people you spend time with. [ Reply | More ]

From what I have observed, in these cultures there seems to be a different standard applied to boys than to girls. Boys are generally coddled and allowed to "get away with" things, more so than girls. I don't know if this bears any similarity to what you have observed. [ Reply | More ]

I thought about this, but I have seen it with girls. [ Reply | More ]
