So our a/c is broken, getting fixed tomorrow, we had to go out to dinner; me, dh, ds (4), ds (1). Ds (4) is acting up horribly in resto, not staying in seat, not eating, not listening; then starts waving hand in front of my face, poking me on shoulder. Was asked to stop, was reprimanded repeatedly...finally, as he was waving his hand in front of my face yet again, I lost control -- and bit his finger. I have never felt worse in my life. I am totally not about corporal punishment, was spanked as a kid and vow never to do that. I feel terrible. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I nearly slapped my dd's face yesterday, so I think your behavior was actually kind of restrained. She's adorable but really knows how to push my buttons, and the backtalk & misbehavior was just too much. Give yourself a break. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Oh bless you. I've been really beating myself up over it. Believe me when I tell it you it was deserved, but I was still disappointed in myself for snapping. [ Reply | More ]

the only reason I didn't slap DD was it was in front of kids and parents...but, honestly, when we got outside I grabbed her arm very firmly and kind of shook her, I was enraged. I'm vowing to play it cool next time b/c my losing it didn't help, but it's easier said than done [ Reply | More ]

OP: Totally, that's partly why I'm so upset w/myself. That kind of thing *never* works with my kid, nor does yelling at him. Remaining unflappable is always the best, but, as you say, easier said than done. [ Reply | More ]

OP: so as we're leaving the resto this old couple leans over and says "what did you do to him?" jokingly, as he's crying and visibly upset. My dh doesn't miss a beat and says, "Oh, we bit him!" [ Reply | More ]

reminding them who's boss isn't a bad thing. [ Reply | More ]

I bit dd once. She was on a biting rampage and I finally bit her back in the middle of a store. She cried, I cried out of guilt. It solved nothing. But just wanted you to know you're not the only one. [ Reply | More ]

your kid is not ready to be in a restaurant - I suggest you figure out how to better handle that and when he's pushing your buttons so when he does, you don't do something like that again [ Reply | More ]
