I'm setting up a playdate and was thinking about hiring a preschool(summer break) teacher to do something fun with the kids (5 kids), like a sing-along, art project, etc. Would it be rude to ask the other moms/caretakers to split the cost of the teacher? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes rude. It's your idea, you pay UNLESS this comes up and you all plan the hiring together [ Reply | More ]

I agree it's a bit presumptuous, but playdates wear me out, my house gets trashed. one friend over playdate is fine, but when it's a group it just gets a bit chaotic [ Reply | More ]

hire a girl instead of a teacher. it won't cost you as much. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's an interesting idea but would suggest asking other kids' moms beforehand if they want it (as a regular "activity"). [ Reply | More ]

I just want to make it easier for everyone (especially moms), to pay someone to keep the kids attention while the moms can actually talk. My mom group is getting bigger with new siblings, etc. We're also in Chicago, where homes/apts are a bit bigger (and affordable) than NYC. So, it's typical to have more than 1 kid at a playdate. Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

Wait, so is it a playgroup or a playdate? Either way I think I'd not be too pleased if I was asked to pony up $20 for something like that. You would need to be in a playgroup and all agree ahead of time that's something you wanted to do. If you invite people (even people w/ children) to your home then you don't charge them for the privilege of visiting. [ Reply | More ]

Hypothetically, would you pay $20-30 for a 2 hour playdate that was organized and facilitated with a fun, academic theme? [ Reply | More ]

I have 3 of my own, so yes, I can 'deal'. I don't think I'm less of mother b/c I'm trying to make it easier not only for me but the group of moms I do playdates with. [ Reply | More ]
