I posted yesterday about feeling conflicted about giving my nanny a reference. On the one hand, I am bothered by some things. On the other, I want her to be able to get a job. Well, it turns out that she got a job w/o a reference from me. Her new employer hired her and didn't bother calling me. Saved me from lying or badmouthing my nanny. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Yikes. Someone hired a nanny without speaking with her current employer first? Just an observation, but some people spend a lot of time trashing nannys, but apparently there are some parents who hire them without a lot of thought, which makes me think they don't care a whole lot about the nanny's behavior. yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I mean, how can a whole army of nannies get away with being neglectful in the parks? Parents let them get away with it. [ Reply | More ]

I personally know of one particularly grievous example where the parents ignored multiple reports of extreme borderline abusive behavior and continued to employ the nanny because it was "easier" than hiring a new one. [ Reply | More ]

Most people get a new job before present employer being contacted, it is not unusual. otherwise, nannies could never change jobs on their own accord. [ Reply | More ]

Present employer is almost never used as reference, and if you let her go of course she did not use you as one. Part of the reason I believe references are pretty worthless. [ Reply | More ]

I hadn't let her go yet. I was planning to, but she beat me to it. [ Reply | More ]

If she was interviewing without you knowing about it, of course she did not use you as reference. When I was trying to leave a job my boss did not know and I never used her as reference. [ Reply | More ]

I did know about it. My nanny went from FT to PT. She was open about saying that she needed to find a FT job. She told me about her interview. I said fine. It was all out in the open. She didn't know that I was going to let her go from the PT position even if she didn't get a job. [ Reply | More ]

she beat you to it - good for her - of course she wouldn't use her current employer, I wish you all the best with the new nanny [ Reply | More ]
