please tell me about your health insurance. my company is always bragging about how great their plan is but i'm wondering how it compares. we pay about $3000 a year plus $20 copays. doesn't cover dental or eye exams/glasses. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

you can't compare based just on this info. is it a ppo or an hmo? is there a per year or lifetime maximum benefit? is there a cap to how much you pay or to how much they pay? etc. the policies vary tremendously - and those variations are the ones that matter when you actually need the insurance when you're sick. yes, but, when you are sick, you want to be able to go to the specialist you want to go to - not have to go to whomever the insurance company tells you you can see. and, if the plan has a maximum that the insurance pays, then a serious illness can bankrupt you in a very short period of time.
