Please tell us about Trinity. We are thinking about applying Dalton because I heard theirart and other curriculums are very strong. I don't know much about Trinity. Please share what you like(dislike) about the school. We will of course tour them in fall but want to have some input. DC is very bright, loves art. looking for school which will fit. Thanks. just apply and see if your dd gets in. Odds are she won't. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Yes, I think we will apply. But want to feel out the school. We want to apply only a few. DC will be in K at G&T school and if doesn't get in DC will stay where it is I guess. [ Reply | More ]

people who go out of their way to avoid giving their dc's gender have no hope of getting into Trinity. Or Dalton. [ Reply | More ]

DC is an "it"? I don't think Trinity will accept any its. Only human children. [ Reply | More ]

If dc is already at a K, why apply out before even knowing whether you're happy at the school or not? [ Reply | More ]

Because it's PUBLIC, and its mother's friends might look down on her for sending DC to public. [ Reply | More ]

She has to apply this fall. I'd say why is she applying so narrowly b/c if she hates it she will have fewer options. If she loves it she can always pull applications. [ Reply | More ]

I bet this is the embarassed Anderson mom who posted a while back. That's why she won't identify gender. This mom is only concerned about impressing her friends. That's why she is only looking at TT. [ Reply | More ]

Op just wants to keep her options open, nothing wrong with that [ Reply | More ]

OP: I am not A mom. We are not super rich family. $$$ is our concern. We can probably afford but not confortably. Our FC was H and A but DC was not accepted. Fall birthday. DC is boy. It is not big deal for me to tell you gender. [ Reply | More ]

If $$$ is a concern, why not give the G&T a try for a year or two? [ Reply | More ]

np: why are you guys jumping on her. she wants to keep her option open. i also have a fall dc and only wanted H or A. child did not get in so i decided to leave her in prek and apply out from there. if she had placed into LL or 116 i still would have applied to a few tt and possibly switched. nothing wrong with only willing to switch to TT. Because dc is in a kindergarten at a school. Why not let dc settle into the school? It's like people whose dc gets into a "3rd tier" school for K and start applying to TTs again immediately. [ Reply | More ]

^^^IOW, see if dc is happy at the school and that the school is good for dc first. Otherwise, it's more like applying just for the name value of TT. [ Reply | More ]

Because K is the big entry point. If we waited a year or 2, there won't be enough spot and harder to get in. [ Reply | More ]

I toured lots of school last fall, Trinity included. It's an excellent fairly traditional school. A little formal. Big on building solid skills in the early years. My sense is they have a very good idea of the skill level of each child. I did not seem like a creative school to me at all. Nice music program (but very traditional). If you have a very arty dc, might not be the best fit. Virtually no spots for anyone after siblings and legacies. [ Reply | More ]

Considered "TT". Very hot right now, mostly because it's impossible to get into, thereby increasing its desirability status to "wildly popular". Of all the schools we toured, probably the one that had the most elitist feel, but then of course, that's probably part of their allure for many. If you do want to apply, you have to submit the application either the day or the day after it's available online and preferably by hand. [ Reply | More ]

np; even though they're in UWS, got the very WASPY feel to them. Kinda traditional. Don't be crushed if dc doesn't get in. Trinity gets most of their smart kids for High School (huge expansion) anyway. [ Reply | More ]

Like: strong sib policy (but if your dc is non sib, almost impossible to get in) which means sib doesn't need very high ERB. People seem gentle. They don't stress competition and college placement. Indoor pool Dislike: too, too, too quiet. All the kids (even K and 1st graders) were super duper quiet. Won't be right for some kids. Aging/old teachers/staff. During the tour, one of the teachers said something strange but reflects the 50's values. [ Reply | More ]

I toured and for the hell of it, applied. It felt very conformist to me, like they had an idea of what kids should be like and they would mold the kids to fit that idea. And it wasn't my idea. there were first grade compositions about the vacations the kids took - St. Moritz, Rome, Paris, Bali, etc. Other privates would pick a different topic. All that said, it seemed well run. [ Reply | More ]

np: I agree with it being too quiet. felt strange and we worried our ds would be stifled, and or have problems there. I like the HS however, and could see that for ds. [ Reply | More ]

OP:Above 2 posters mentioned "too quiet". What does it mean? Also do they value art9or artistic DCs? [ Reply | More ]

too quiet means that the kids are not really encouraged to be kids. they are the kids you see walking down the street with a bland look on their faces, staring off into space, holding the nannies hand. as for art, there are plenty of opportunities to make art; however, creativity is not encouraged. more formal instruction (ie, everyone instructed on how to paint a still life, etc.) [ Reply | More ]

I've seen about 4-5 classes at Trinity and it was just very, very quiet. Everyone sitting down by their desks or by activity table and not talking. In one middle school class, some questions were asked by students but still very quiet. The teachers speak very softly. I think they value softspokenness and quiet. One must whisper. [ Reply | More ]

In my mind, Trinity and Dalton are pretty polar opposite. Trinity is quite traditional, Dalton is progressive. We had an in at Trinity but chose Dalton because it was a better fit for a creative, out of the box, DC. [ Reply | More ]
