Non-child related question (need advice): new bathtub was delivered a week ago and inspected by 'designer'. GC installed it and when protective tape was pulled off one corner, glaze came off exposing cast iron. My question: who is responsible for this 'mistake'? Store that sold us the tub will send someone to fix it and offered to take $100 off. Is this considered good enough? So mad that GC didn't do a thorough job inspecting it! You wanted the GC to pull the protective tape off before installing? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the protective tape? [ Reply | More ]

op:true! sorry, I know I sound irrational but so many things have gone wrong with this renovation and I'm getting so frustrated. Okay, would you settle for $100 off and fixing it or would you ask for more $$ from tub/bath store? [ Reply | More ]

Depends on the effectiveness of the fix. It sounds like a defect in the tub. [ Reply | More ]

op:I think so too. Unfortunately only found the defect after installation when tape was taken off... [ Reply | More ]

I would expect them to pay for re-glazing. [ Reply | More ]

op:they will. $100 is additional. They're saying that since it's installed they won't reimburse more than freight charge. I think we're stuck with this [ Reply | More ]

This is a manufacturing defect most likely (not GCs fault). Surface was improperly prepared before glaze was applied; or, glaze was applied too thickly (or glaze itself was too thick). I would send the tub back if possible - the chances are excellent this will occur elsewhere on the tub. [ Reply | More ]

op:ita that it's a manufacturing defect. It is also a company I'd never heard off but recommended by 'designer' based on feedback from bath store. I found a Porcher cast iron bathtub that could have worked for our small space but designer pushed for this (probably because he gets a commission on things he sources). Not sure that I have any other choice but to accept this, right? [ Reply | More ]
