Can't dissuade you enough from going to either place. They loathe Americans, its filthy, grossly overpriced and there are such prettier places to stay (think coast of Italy, lake Como, etc.) [ Reply | More

We were in the South of France last year and traveled extensively. I would spend some time in Arles for sure. I might avoid Nice and Cannes, they are a bit like tourist traps...over priced etc., Go a little further west and you will have a better time lots of great festivals etc., I can give you more town names if you like. Also consider Spain. We went to beaches in both Spain and France and they were all great. [ Reply | More

Yes! Arles. You can do day trips to Avignon, pont du gard, etc. Great markets. We stayed in Hotel Calendal (sp?). perfectly provencal. [ Reply | More
