Please, watch "The Business of Being Born". Or read about it. Do not get induced because it dramatically increases your chances of c/s [ Reply | More ]

i was induced twice. first time my water broke and my body just wasnt' ready, imo. it took a long time. that being said, it wasn't a negative experience. second time was much quicker and easier. [ Reply | More ]

I would only do it if medically indicated. It will likely be more painful than a natural labor and has higher c/s rate. Not worth it for scheduling or comfort purposed imo. [ Reply | More ]

Induced twice. #1 horrible - 29 hours, problems with cord, 90mins of pushing. Pitocin left me so bloated I weighed more the day after delivery than the day before and my baby was 9lbs! #2 fine - 10hrs start to finish. I would always wait and opt out of induction if an option. [ Reply | More ]

do not know if this will be helpful. I was offered an inducement date close to my due date and I declined, thinking I would not need it. My DS was then 10 days past due and we induced at 12 days past due date - he was over 9 lbs and a difficult delivery. If we had any idea I would not have gone into spontaneous labor, or that DS was going to be so large, I would have induced much earlier. I would set the date. [ Reply | More ]

My induction definitely led to an "emergency" (not!!!) c-section when the pitocin made db's heartrate drop temporarily (this is common with induction). I think pitocin is one of the most hateful drugs out there for a zillion reasons. Would definitely educate yourself and try and avoid it. [ Reply | More ]

29hr induced mom had same heartrate problems, but no Csection. I would not elect to be induced. [ Reply | More ]

I was induced 2 days after due date. was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced and having cx (far apart and irregular).went to hospital and got cervadil at 8 PM. water broke on its own at 1 AM, ds born at 4 AM. no pitocin (until after - when I think you get it anyway to shrink the uterus back up). good experience, but I think I was "ready" anyway [ Reply | More ]

I was induced at 39 weeks and 5 days. Took a loooong time, I wouldn't dialate more than 3 cm, then after 22 hours doctors decided that a C/S was best. But then, a final examination found me to be 9.5 centimeters, so we pushed, and I ended up with a vaginal birth. [ Reply | More ]

one option may be to have your water broken and see if you go into labor naturally without pitocin; this worked for me [ Reply | More ]

I had to be induced at 38 wks for complications. Cervadil started at 7pm, then at 8:30am the next morning OB broke my water and started pitocin, and I got the epidural. Baby born at 10am. Easy, relatively pain-free (the cervadil was uncomfortable so I didn't get much sleep overnight, but it wasn't painful). I would do it again in a second. [ Reply | More ]

i was induced with #2 at 41 weeks. (i went into labor naturally with #1, who was born on her due date). dr told me that rates of stillbirth go up past 41 weeks and that the chance of a c-section do *not* go up much. it went very quickly and easily for me - had the cervical suppository about 3 am, pitocin about 7:30am, dd was born at 9:33 after about 20 minutes of pushing. but i missed the experience of going into labor and feel like dd's birthday isn't her "real" one (ridiculous, i know). everyone's experience is different. I was induced on my due date due to pre-ecclampsia. The combo of drugs I was on made me vomit continuously for hours. Because I was also on medication for my blood pressure, the efficacy of the pitocin was reduced, so my contractions were weak, making pushing that much harder. It was an awful experience and I still feel bad about it over two years later. [ Reply | More ]

If your baby isn't too big wait a little longer. It wasn't a good experience for me. 30 hours of labor, so swollen (4 days after delivery I had only lost 4 pounds!) and I had an 8 Lb baby! After about 24 hours they were really pushing for a c/s but since the baby was still fine I insisted on waiting. Had more tearing that I think one would have if the spontanously went into labor. Well, I'll be the deveil's advocate & say my induction was way easier and more pleasant than my first two (natural) labors. But that is because I have incredably short, painful labors - my first db was 4 hours start to finish, my 2nd was 2 hrs! Since I was now having twins my Dr. & decided we both had to make it to the hospital in time for their birth & we scheduled an induction @38 wks. It was a dream! For the first time I had a slow, steady buildup in cxs instead of an instant, explosive kabang! I didn't need an epidural & delivered both girls vaginally with about 3 pushes each. So everybody's different. [ Reply | More ]
