I'm probably admitting this for the first time, but marrying 'up' has proven to be really challenging for me. My dh and I just delivered our first and I find things just so confusing. My db is 1 week old now, and my mil insists that I go ahead and commit to hiring the baby nurse they suggested so that everything works out with our new db. For the life of me, though, I can't quite figure out why I need it. Dh feels that either way is fine, but I can tell he thinks mom could be right. Really, I feel like I don't know what I'd be paying for. I had never even heard of it until his family started talking to me about the new baby. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I didn't want one either. Some woman can't handle newborns. It is YOUR choice. You are the mommy and it has little to do with money. [ Reply | More ]

op: Really? I thought it was really expensive to not have anything to do with money. It would have cost us $1500 per week. [ Reply | More ]

You don't "need" a baby nurse. [ Reply | More ]

I did just fine without a baby nurse. I'm not the kind of person who likes other people in my space. Do what you want to do. I wanted to spend the time with db, without anybody else except for dh. [ Reply | More ]

I was on the fence about needing a baby nurse but was so happy we had one! I was nursing, and my boobs were hanging out and she did not care. She was a lifesaver for us the first 3 weeks, but everyone has different needs. [ Reply | More ]

I came from 'old money' and my mom had a baby nurse for all her children (3), and other help. It was what they did. But, when I had my first and someone suggested it, I felt the same way you did. Do what you want and hire a caretaker when or if you need one. I wanted to be my db's mom full time. It was exhausting and sometimes scary, but it was the best thing I've ever done. Good luck and congrats! [ Reply | More ]
