Have 2 kids at Anderson (both Elem). IF we were to move out of the City - where to go? Jersey? CT, Westchester? Would like to stay close to City as possible, but give the kids a home, yard, etc. Both are great, social and bright kids. would love comments re: transition (socially), taxes, schools, commute (we both work, telecommute a lot, travel a lot for work). tia. What does Anderson have to do with anything? [ Reply | More ]

just that it's a good school, and a hard decision to leave, considering kids are happy and receiving a great education - and I'm wondering if it's worth giving them a new/different growing up experience with grass and trees. Plus the work load at A. is very, very heavy and it's a bit stressful. Just looking to enjoy my kids more. I'm seeing such a big diff. in the summer in their personalities and want to have more of that. [ Reply | More ]

Make the move. School and life will be less stressful, happier. Workload will only get bigger in MS. [ Reply | More ]

my dcs are also at anderson, and do not seem streesed by the workload. One is in MS, btw. But I think if you want a different QOL generally, go for it. [ Reply | More ]

np: personally, I would opt for bronxville instead. or riverdale. then you could stay at anderson. [ Reply | More ]

Bronxville is not within the 5 boroughs so you could not stay. Riverdale, yes. [ Reply | More ]

You could stay, but you'd have to pay tuition to the city. [ Reply | More ]

np: it is true. I heard Marcie Shaw say that to someone. Some people try to fake a New York address that live in Jersey or wherever so they dont; have to pay tuition. i had no idea about that either. [ Reply | More ]

wow i never heard of that either. anderson doesn't let people attend who do not live in the City. [ Reply | More ]

Not to get in intially, but if you move out of town while your child is already enrolled in a NYC public school, you have the option of continuing to attend, but you have to pay tuition to the city (not the school). Our friends moved to Westchester while kid was at Delta and kid even went on to Bx Science for a year before switching to local Westchester HS. [ Reply | More ]

If you work, you're not going to enjoy your kids more in the burbs because of the added commute time. [ Reply | More ]

^^^If you want to enjoy your kids more, I would say don't travel "a lot" for work anymore. [ Reply | More ]

What about Greenwich, CT? We live in city but thinking about moving there. Great public school, more space, but expensive. We are looking for the homes around $3-3.5 million(4 bedroom+). [ Reply | More ]

again, OP here. no no no. My kids (I think) would love a yard of some sort. They like school, and I would not want to move to the burbs if their education would suffer, or if they'd suffer socially. They adore their friends. I just think that the workload is a lot and combined with the fact that they would enjoy outdoor life. It's not about money; but we would have to afford a house and the taxes. [ Reply | More ]

There are a lot of nice suburbs, but keep in mind that kids in the Millburn, Scarsdale, etc. school systems are also stressed out. If you fly for work NJ might be good b/c you can get to Newark Airport quickly. The Midtown Direct line is good. Honors at Maplewood/South Orange HS is good - your kids don't sound like they would get lost in the shuffle. You can look at South Orange, Millburn, Chatham for the vibe you like. [ Reply | More ]

Consider a modest second home within 2 hours of new york, great getaway for the family and if you telecommute you can do it from there. I do this with my smart phone and it works well. we paid 150K for a 3 BR 2 BA house in a lake community in Sullivan County. Kids love it up there. Best of both worlds. And, you won't have to give up A. [ Reply | More ]
