Am at the end of my rope here. Formerly great sleep (3.5 y.o) is now refusing to sleep alone in her room. CIO (which I believe in) is not working anymore. She turned her room upside down tonight and seems genuinely scared to be alone. What to do? Any BTDTs? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I also had a great sleeper until about that age. Slept through the night. Great napper, etc. I could leave the room when he was still awake, then he would fall asleep on his own. It's tough because I'd always had it so easy. We tried everything. Ds is 6 now and it still isn't great. Takes him forever to fall asleep, and I have finally acknowleged he just doesn't need as much sleep as other dc (about 9 hours a night). Could that be your dc's problem? [ Reply | More ]

Can you just sit in there, or outside the door? I know it's a pain . . . I think they have a lot of fears, though, at that age. [ Reply | More ]

OR: That's what we did. We sat in a chair in his room. We had a rule about no talking, which he could follow, but sometimes I would have to sit there for 2 hours until he fell asleep! [ Reply | More ]

This sounds different...but we taught our daughter that God is in her heart. When she is scared, I come in, I ask for a gaurdian angel, or have her ask for one. She likes to ask God for one that is brave, strong, and the best. We "throw" all the fear out of her heart, so God can have more room to work, and then I pray to God that he will protect her. Kids get that God is SO big. Ya know Veggie tales song, God is bigger than the boogie man. It works everytime, and then she literally rolls over and goes back to sleep. Nothing else ever worked!
