DH has chest pains and shortness of breath. But he refuses to go to the ER because he knows it will be crowded (especially because of the heat). Men are idiots. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I can't force him. I've begged. I've pleaded. I've called a friend who is a doctor and had him explain why he needs to go to the ER now. But DH thinks that a heart attack is the dramatic event you see on tv. [ Reply | More ]

is there a doc in the box place nearby? They tend to be less crowded sometimes. He should see someone right away! [ Reply | More ]

Hmmmm. Now that I think about it...I can probably drive him to an ER that will be far less crowded in less time than it will take us to be seen here in the city. Maybe he will go for that. [ Reply | More ]

His GP will have someone on call. That person can give guidance over the phone and steer him to a good ER, if necessary. [ Reply | More ]

CALL AN AMBULANCE. Ambulance patients are immediately rushed into the ER, bypassing the waiting room. GO NOW! [ Reply | More ]

MD mom here. If they're not that sick they still wait once they get triaged. [ Reply | More ]

Another MD mom here. You must be a podiatrist. Shortness of breath and chest pains are NEVER put on any "waiting" list. [ Reply | More ]

np: still better to get checked by paramedics right away and know that nothing big is going on than to wait and get picked up by the medical examiner. [ Reply | More ]

He's already spoken with a friend who is a doctor and told him to go to the nearest ER (which is all of two blocks from our apartment). He's going to "sleep it off". [ Reply | More ]

He's got to go, please. God this sounds like my DH, who has a history of heart attacks in the famly as well, father, grandfather, great grandfather, all died before 60 of heart attacks, all had previous heart attacks before the ones that killed them. [ Reply | More ]
