should I be worried that my fiance is taking up selling life/health insurance. I have 1 dd, do you think this is a reliable career? How much can he make? He has a friend out of state who he is linking up with, and he plans to sell out of his home through his lap top. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If that is all he is selling, he will make very little. If he is a financial planner or broker who is also licensed to sell life and health insurance, he can do very well. But it's hard to be a planner or broker purely from home. [ Reply | More

Is this a second job for him, or his primary job? Because unless he is interested in offering a full suite of financial planning offerings, he is not going to make a lot of money selling insurance. If you know anything about the industry, you know the highest commission products are sold to the HNW/UHNW groups. You can't sell them insurance over the phone or e-mail. You are stuck selling the lowest commission products and trying to make it a volume game. [ Reply | More

This is cold call selling - he will be dialing off lists purchased from a list broker. It is high burn out work. Most people don't make it. If you start very young (right out of college) with a major insurer and go through their program you have a better chance. [ Reply | More
