Several of my dd close friends are going to a good neighborhood school and she is going to a G&T about 20 blocks away. She keeps asking me why almost of all her friends are going to the local school and why isn't she? I really don't know how to respond, wwyd? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Tell her that the decision was yours and that you (and your dh) chose the school you felt was the best choice for her. And if she asks further, just say you liked the school she's going to best for her. [ Reply | More ]

ugh. no. just say, not everyone goes to the same school. sophie is going to x school, jasper is going to y school. there are lots of nice dcs at your school, too and you'll make lots of new friends. i'm sure in op's neighborhood or preschool there are dcs going all over. you don't need to explain any more than that. Which then begs the question, "Why can't I go my friend's school?" The parents have to settle the why question by saying it was their choice, and that's that. [ Reply | More ]

of course. but all this "best for you" nonsense is best left out of the argument. [ Reply | More ]

Don't parents always make choices about what they feel is best for their child? Conveying that in my book helps a kid feel that the parents are in charge and that it's not random and she got the short end of the stick. [ Reply | More ]

Why on earth is at wrong to tell your kids you're making the best choice for them? We're in the same boat. (ds's friends going to different schools from him.) we told him this. He's fine with it. Done. [ Reply | More ]

dcs don't really get this argument. too subtle. just say dcs go to different schools and they all make friends and have fun and are really happy. the end. [ Reply | More ]

I like this response. Her friends are going to a school that will work best for them, and so is she. Focus on playdates and other ways to stay connected. [ Reply | More ]

I would prefer the phrasing "your old friends are all dummies so we are putting you somewhere where you can meet a better group of friends" [ Reply | More ]

she's 4. get over it. tell her you found a great school for her, and she will make lots of friends. you are conveying too much to her...of your anxiety especially [ Reply | More ]

LMAO! You'd never have asked this classic VBA Q if all the friends were headed to the G&T and your kid was going to the neighborhood school. [ Reply | More ]

At our preschool, kids went to dozens of different kindergartens and since dc has known that for 3 years, it was no big thing. [ Reply | More ]
