my 3 year old son is obsessed with princesses. Ariel, Snow White, Belle, you name it. We got him a princess castle (melissa and doug) for his birthday and he was in heaven, but my mom thought that was "a bit much". He doesn't want to DRESS like Ariel, (he says "mom, I'm a BOY") but he does like to wear his Ariel towel around his waist and call it his dress. Normal? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Just love him and let him be himself. [ Reply | More ]

that's what we're doing, but we're wondering if we should simply indulge him--it's been this way for about 8 months, he only wants princess books, we bought him a princess backpack, etc etc. He's obsessed LOL. I don't mind at all, but some people definitely think it's weird that we "encourage" this. [ Reply | More ]

Who cares what "some people" think. If "some people" disapproved of your decision to breast feed, you'd tell them (internally) to go f@#$% themselves, right? It's your child, and it's his life. Close ranks on this and let him be himself. [ Reply | More ]

np: those ppl that think it's weird are insecure and idiots. These are probably the same ppl who think boys shouldn't cry, boys don't do anything like a girl, ect. I'm pg with my first son (I have 2 dds) and I already told dh that he better be prepared for our son to want to play with our dds toys and I have no issue with it [ Reply | More ]

And don't forget to ALSO tell your mom that even if it is not merely a phase that you plan to love your son and help him be himself, regardless of what she feels about it. [ Reply | More ]

Oh, you came to the right place. My dear mother, whose MIL and mom lived on the opposite coast and another country respectively, never had to deal with a buttinski parent critiqueing her child rearing techniques. I have become an expert at reminding her of this and forging my own path!! [ Reply | More ]
