Just about to enter the thrid trimester and have already gained 26 lbs. I am only 5 ft 1 in tall and pretty petite (started out at 120 before pg). I can see I've gained a little weight on the arms and butt, but not a ton. Anyone out there similar to me? How much did you gain total before birth and how much did you then have to lose? I am almost exactly you. I'm 32 weeks, 5 ft 2 in and was just about 120 when I got pg. I've now gained about 30 lbs and my arms, legs, and face are a little "fatter." Not much, but enough to stress me out. DH says a lot of it might be water retention at this point but I feel fat. [ Reply | More ]

op: my dr says I will probably gain about 45 lbs total. Scary, when the guideline today is no more tha 25-30 lbs -- for a lot taller women than us! [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I have two friends who are also pg and a few weeks ahead of me, both around 5'8" and I look so much bigger than they do! Did you see the pix of Nicole Kidman this week? She doesn't even look like she had a baby! [ Reply | More ]

Start watching what you eat NOW, and you will not gain that much. Eat tons of fruit, fish, and lean meats, and drink tons of water. No fried foods, muffins/scones/bagels/etc. Doing this, I only gained about 5 pounds my last trimester (for a total gain of 33lbs). You only really have to worry about the next 2 months, since very few people gain much real weight in the last month (any weight at that point is probably water). Not to be a party pooper, but btdt, and it's soooo worth watching what you eat in order not to have the extra pounds in the last month or two (with #1 I gained 45lbs and really felt shitty)--not to mention postpartum. ^^^ also, fwiw, a lot more of your weight gain in the last trimester will go to the db than in earlier trimesters, and that's not a good thing if you're petite--your doc will be itching to call for a c-section if your db is measuring on the large side. Not trying to scare you, but BTDT w/ #1 as well! [ Reply | More ]

Sure, and really--good luck with the last trimester! It's rough the last 2 months no matter what you do, but you can really make it better for yourself. [ Reply | More ]

I'm 5 foot 1, was close to 128, gained about 30, and lost it all within 8 weeks (nursed, walked a lot). [ Reply | More ]
