has anyone been looking for an apartment to rent lately? my broker is telling me that there are only a "few" properties available. wondering if this means that there are only a few properties that she is representing or if there are really very few properties available. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

brokers always tell you that because they want you to take something quickly and feel like if you don't "grab" the apt. they are showing you, you will be homeless. [ Reply | More ]

ok, that's what i figured. she's acting like we're unrealistic even though i've made it clear that i'll take a VERY small apt with teh right configuration or something that can be reconfigured. [ Reply | More ]

Who knows but my experience has been that rental brokers are not really your best source of information. I looked for a 2Br on the UES in about March/April and we had plenty of time to mull over apartments, but the brokers tried to tell us that the college kids were coming, sales were slow so rentals would go up, the 2nd Avenue subway construction woudl be finished in a week, an apartment in PS290 was in PS6, you name it! No - don't settle for your broker. You'll end up either finding what you want or you will know that you tried and it just isn't out there for your budget. [ Reply | More ]

-- oh, it's slated to finish in like 10 years, maybe more? They are allowed to do work on weekends and late at night. They were turning off the water in the building I looked at due to a subway snaffu. [ Reply | More ]

Have looked several times over the 15yrs I have lived in NYC (and never ended up moving). Rental brokers are the scum of the earth, no nothing, will say anything to make a deal, and never listen to your requirements. I think best to find no fee option, maybe look on Craigs List. What do you want and where do you want it? [ Reply | More ]

i want someting in gramercy or UWS. it doesn't have to be big but i need to be able to make 3 small bedrooms (i'm willing to turn a dining area into a bedroom). they can be very small, but we have to have them. also, a doorman and elevator. [ Reply | More ]

Try Related Rentals or Glenwood or one of the other big management companies where you do not need to use a broker. [ Reply | More ]
