the hudson heights neighorhood in washington heights is great-very quiet with an almost surburban feel, tons of families with young kids, a good public school, and lots of nice parks and playgrounds. Also large apartments for less than other areas. [ Reply | More ]

UWS - riverside drive, west end avenue, or between columbus and CPW or columbus and amsterdam - this way you have access to both Central & Riverside Park - one where you stroll by the river, another miles of green. Central park has playgrounds, a puppet theater, you can even walk across park easily to the Met or even the zoo..its wonderful. stay between 73rd + 93rd if you can. [ Reply | More ]

ps187 - a solid, traditional school. For preschool Medical Center Nursery School is the popular favorite. [ Reply | More ]

Well, it's not a bargain basement solution, but I love Carnegie Hill, which is mostly slotted for PS198 (bad) but party for PS6. The 90s near Central Park are pretty, QUIET, and not too noisy. You are at Central Park and near tons of kids activities. 86th street is really busy/hectic though. [ Reply | More ]

Much to my surprise, the far east UES turns out to be a great area. Full of families, lots of parks, several good public schools, quiet and very reasonable (relatively) to boot. The downside of course is subway access, but i've learned to love the bus :) [ Reply | More ]
