Did you pick your dc's school because the program, the curriculum, the style, the community, the reputation, etc. fit your ideal of the person you want your dc to be, or because it was a fit for who your dc is? Be honest. discuss. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Most of the above. The atmosphere of the school (warm and open, lots of parental involvement), the quality of the teachers, the quality of the academic experience, flexibility for learning differences. It is a great fit for our family. [ Reply | More

We got lucky, DC tested in to a great districtwide G&T which is close to our apt that has so far proven to be a perfect fit (going into 3rd grade). DC probably would've done fine most anywhere, but this school seems to be particularly right for who he is and who we are and what we wanted for him. [ Reply | More

Community was the first filter I used to see if it's racially diverse which is IMP to us. Then, Philosophy: coed and progressive. Then the reputation of academic rigor and the kind of kids who are there (sounded like my dc would fit in, or that at other schools, dc might not fit in). Of course, there were some negative buzz I heard also, but the positives outweighed (the stuff I saw and felt for myself) whatever rumor I heard here. [ Reply | More
