argh. we told my family we couldn't join them for a vacation the third week of august b/c dh has interviews that week that he's unwilling to miss, so instead we planned our vacation for the second week of august. now he's agreed to "practice interviews" during that week, and doesn't want to cancel, but I think he should. So we're in for a fight, I'm guessing. damn. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Is there no compromise? Can you go on vacation w/o DH, at least part of the time? I totally understand why he wants to focus 100% on this. Maybe your leaving him in town will make it great for both of you. [ Reply | More ]

lol, it'll only be great for me if I can leave the kids with him. The reason we're not taking the third week of august (and have him just come back to NY for the couple of days he needs to be here) is b/c we did that each of the last two years, and it pretty much sucked for both of us, esp for me. To be clear, he's the interviewER, not the interviewEE. So practice interviews are something that it's a nice thing for him to do, but definitely not critical for him. [ Reply | More ]

Ah. I've been vacationing without DH for a bit this summer, and I've really enjoyed it. He's a crummy vacationer -- always looking for "activities." But my DC are 5 and 7. They can play all day without any intervention, as long as there is a swimmable body of water. [ Reply | More ]

right, I expect it'll be easier when dcs are older -- mine are 4 and 1, and I'm a sahm -- while I'm lucky to be able to stay home with them, it also means it's not much of a vacation for me if dh isn't along. [ Reply | More ]
