My ds just turned one this month and has started kicking me during diaper changes. Not just kicking randomly, but turning the lower half of his body and kicking AT me during the end of his diaper change. Honestly, nothing makes me come closer to losing it then when he does this. Especially when he's covered in poop! I tell him "No", but it doesn't work. Any advice? To make matters worse, he's very big for his age - 27 lbs and 33 inches - so he's tough to control physically. have you tried changing him standing up? it's hard with bms but easier with pee. he can't kick you then. [ Reply | More ]

You hold them down and get the job done. And that's all. It's not a teaching moment [ Reply | More ]

they all do it - change him standing up - he can hold onto a chair - unless it's poop [ Reply | More ]

this is the way it's going to be from now on! :) You can distract him if that works- get a toy or a book for him to look at it. And develop coping strategies: stand to the side of him as you change him so he can't reach you with his feet; do diaper changes in ten seconds; and if it's poop, put something under him so the poop doesn't get everywhere, put his arms together over his torso, put your elbow over his arms, and wipe his butt with other hand. In other words, gently strong-arm him. Try to make it fun, and endure. [ Reply | More ]

are you responding to my post- the one about 'this is the way it's going to be from now on'? Not sure what you mean; do you think I have anger issues from my post? I'm rereading it and I don't see how you get that? [ Reply | More ]

op: I know it's stupid. I have a friend who's ds does have anger issues (he's 5) and she once said to me "I hope you have a boy so you know what it's like..." after her child had a meltdown. So I don't know if it's a boy thing or an anger thing. My ds is just so different from my dd. [ Reply | More ]

unless you are smaller than 27 lbs and 33 inches I think you should be able to handle this. [ Reply | More ]
