do you have no friends (perhaps where you moved from) who would take her? So sad for a beloved pet to get wrenched away from her family. [ Reply | More ]

why can't you keep her? get a dog walker to come once a day, good sitter when you're away - she'll be much happier as will you [ Reply | More ]

you should be able to place a dog like that easily. but, honestly, we had a lab in the city and, with a morning trip to a dog run or park, and a dog walker during the day, then a walk at night, it was fine. [ Reply | More ]

^^ and there is definitely a lab rescue in the city. i don't have the contact info, but i know people who've gotten dogs from them. [ Reply | More ]

oh, i totally get that. but if you can afford it, dog walkers can be a great help. i have a friend with a yellow lab who works long hours and her dog walkers come twice a day. i recognize that YOU cannot do it yourself with the kids, but if your dh can do a morning and nighttime walk, then dogwalkers can do the other. I actually think that she's doing a great thing for the dog. A dog that size should have more than 3 walks a day. A 900sf apt is not an appropriate place for a dog that needs to run around. [ Reply | More ]

dog walkers can be paid to take dogs to the dog run. ours have two different prices, one for a walk and one for an extended walk that involves time at the dog run. [ Reply | More ]

city dogs get better play time and socialization with other dogs in dog runs than suburban dogs do in backyards. so it's apples and oranges. continuous access to grass is nice, but dogs at the dog runs are VERY happy to explore their pack dynamics and roughhouse like dogs are meant to. ^^ also, if you are simply exhausted with your newborn and need a break, and/or if dh has any long trips coming up, you can send the dog to camp - there are a couple of dog camps in upstate and some of them will pick your dog up in the city even. [ Reply | More ]

for her sake, if you really love her, try to make it work. Your kids will be easier soon enough, and then you'll all have a wonderful companion. Do you have a friend who could perhaps keep her for a few weeks? [ Reply | More ]
