9 out of 10 publics have half day K for the first two days. I don't know about Nest specifically. [ Reply | More ]

The first two days are half days. One day your child will go to school in the morning and the next day in the afternoon. So half the class will be in one session and half in the other session. This way the teacher has a smaller group of kids at each part of the day so he/she can get to know them better. The whole class doesn't come together until the 3rd day. This is actually great for the kids and the teacher but not so good for working parents. I suggest that if you work, put in for those two days off now. On the first day, while your kid is in class, you will be attending an orientation in the auditorium. I also suggest joining brooklynnesters@yahoogroups.com or nestforum@yahoogroups.com. People are really helful on these list serves and the Brookyn Group has put together a couple of picnics so incoming kindergardners and their parents can meet each other and ask questions. I think there is another one coming up in August in Prospect Park. [ Reply | More ]

Actually the picnics and list serve are for families of Nest students of all grades, not just kindergarden. [ Reply | More ]

np: It was a year ago so I may be off, but wasn't the third day also shorter? I kind of remember it was all kids but shorter length. I think the abbreviated days also help those kids who have separation issues. Going from summer vacation to new school/new teacher/new peers is a lot on those little folks. Oh and the first day (if it is like last year) is a madhouse. Nobody knows which class they are in, etc. Bring a cup of coffee and just let your kid play while the first 90% rush the tables. You're all gonna get to the same place. See you in Sept (or at the picnic.) And g/l. [ Reply | More ]
