Firing nanny of 4 years (long story, but it's way past time). I have 3 kids - 4 yo and 2 yo ds' and newborn dd. How hard will this be on the boys? Any suggestions for easing the transition? And how do I intro the new nanny? TIA - this is so stressful. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I feel for you. I'm also firing out nanny of 2.5 yrs which is also long overdue. There may be an initial insecurity on the part of dcs, but I think they adapt pretty quickly to someone who is loving and caring. [ Reply | More ]

I'm guessing if she's not a great nanny, that they will get over it soon. The only people I know that had a hard time getting over nanny leaving was when the nanny was amazing. [ Reply | More ]

BTDT when older two boys were 3 and 5 and also had a newborn dd. She sucked and they didn't even care that they never saw her again. She wasn't abusive but she didn't do anything to engage them....she made this BIG deal about wanting to say goodbye to them. They came home from school and we explained that she was leaving to go work somewhere else and she wouldn't be back and they basically said, "oh, OK, bye" and that was it. I knew they didn't care about her and that is why I was firing (well that and another long story about general laziness)........if it's truly way past time, your kids won't miss her. If new nanny is great they will bond with her right away. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. I do believe she genuinely cares about them, which is why I haven't done it up til now. But the other issues are just too much to ignore at this point. [ Reply | More ]
