i am due with my first dd next month. initially we got prego with twins via IVF and sadly lost one twin at 20 weeks. getting and stating pregnant has been a total nightmare for me, therefore DH and i want to complete family asap, so are planning to get prego when #1 is 6 - 8 mos. will have to do IVF again. would i be crazy to put in 2 embryos and risk twins? that would result in me having 3 kids under 2years old! i just dont think we will have great chances if we only put in one emb and i cant bear the thought of having to go through IVF a third time. TIA! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I know someone who implanted only 1 embryo with the same fear and got twins! I would wait until you have 1 to decide what you want to do. GL. [ Reply | More ]

Agree I would definitely wait and see how you feel. If your pregnancy was so hard, would it not make sense to wait a bit longer, especially if delivery turns out hard too? Waiting how recovery goes makes most sense IMO. [ Reply | More ]

i've thought of that, but i have to be honest, i am pretty much in 'lets get this over with' mode. am concerned that once i am used to not being pregnant, i will have such a hard time getting back into prego mindset. [ Reply | More ]

But you will be a mom in a month, that is another mindset entirely, and one you may well enjoy very much. [ Reply | More ]

I have a friend with 4 kids under 5 (all singles) and she somehow deals with it. I also knew of a friend of a friend w/ 2 y.o. twins who then had triplets. If your worst case scenario is three kids under 2 - I'd say go for it. [ Reply | More ]

I personally couldn't do this, but everyone is different. how old are you? can you wait a little time? also, not to get your hopes up, but i have several friends who did IVF with their first dc's and didn't need it with other pg's. also, you may want to talk to your dr-your dr may want you to take a break from the ivf and pg for a year or so (many drs now recommend 2 yrs b/w kids for the mom to have a physical break from pg). I am sorry for the loss of your other db and wish you well with your soon to be born dd. [ Reply | More ]

thanks - i am almost 34 - so not too old, but not that young either, so i dont have all the time in the world. plus it took us over 2 years to get prego, so i'd rather not wait any longer. unfortunately i know we will have to do ivf becuase of medical reasons. [ Reply | More ]

enjoy your dd and give yourself some time before making a decision-maybe talk to dr at 6 wk follow up to see where you are. but if you have to do ivf, waiting from when your dc is 8 mos to 12 mos isn't that much time and 34 is pretty young. either way, gl and just enjoy your dd. sounds like you went through a lot to have her, so just enjoy the few months with her, since you can't get them back... and kids grow way too fast. if you are looking ahead to being pg, you may forget to enjoy this dc, which you may not want to do [ Reply | More ]

I would talk to your re, they may not even be willing to do IVF that quickly after pregnancy. There are all sorts of very good reasons not to before 1 year, and they would be compounded by the fact that you may be carrying twins. [ Reply | More ]

ita - if you're already at risk, have had a difficult time, and are spending the money on ivf, why risk the higher rates of premature labor and fetal death? [ Reply | More ]
