My siblings and I were all toilet trained by age 18 mos. Probably because my parents couldn't afford disposable diapers or a diaper service. Now my mother is pressuring me to start toileting train ds at 16 mos. Is there any reason not to? Other than the fact that it may not work and we can frustrate ourselves for no reason? I know I decide. I'm just torn. On one hand, plenty of babies are toilet trained at a year old. On the other, it is more common the the US to wait until dc are at least two. Is there an advantage to one timeframe? [ Reply | More ]

i've had the same questions you had. well, i missed my window w/dd. she was malleable at one point, but i didn't take it. then she decided she preferred the convenience of the diaper, she could totally control herself, would even hold it in all day if I let her run around naked. never did #2 outside of home, always waited til we got home. Finally at 3yrs 4mo we are progressing on the toilet training with the help of serious bribes. But you know, my mom had all her 5 kids trained by age 2 so I think these disposable wonders today has created a whole subset of problems. [ Reply | More ]
