Elmira? All I know is that every family I know from up there has sent their kids to amazing colleges and universities. The kids are so mature and well spoken too. [ Reply | More ]

Parts of Albany and surrounding area can be quite beautiful with some good schools. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know, maybe college towns like Saratoga or Ithaca would have good public schools? It is closer but I love Rhinebeck, not sure what the schools are like there. [ Reply | More ]

Ithaca is 5-6 hrs away. Great public schools (no private and all the professors send kids there). Too far, though. [ Reply | More ]

Some beautiful towns in the Finger Lakes region (though may be 4-5 hours from NYC?) Skaneateles is one that has a strong school system. [ Reply | More ]

I'm from Albany. Not a bad place to grow up, good schools, cheaper than NYC yet close enough to visit, decent arts/things to do. gl [ Reply | More ]

I've heard Oneonta is very good. Also a college town. (Rhinebeck schools are weak. A lot of people send their kids to private school in Poughkeepsie.) [ Reply | More ]

Look first at any towns that have colleges/universities. Those will tend to have the strongest school systems (both SUNY colleges and say, Skidmore, Cornell, etc.) [ Reply | More ]

I agree. We have friends in Saratoga, where Skidmore is. They are very happy and it is lovey town, with some nice restaurants, places to shop etc. [ Reply | More ]
