Having had kids in both top selective public and 2nd tier private, I can honestly say the public school kids are far smarter and impressive from K on. Its very interesting how much family and preschool and other connections secure a spot for average kids. Most of these kids in my dc's private could never have made it at my other dc's public. we are at what would be considered 3rd tier private on UB. don't know publics, but I would agree that the average level at lower tier schools is...well...lower. we are applying out in the fall. [ Reply | More ]

Statements like this are when I wish UB had screen names, so I could discount all of this poster's other comments as well. I would say the same about any blanket statements about groups of children--no matter their schools, their race or their income level. [ Reply | More ]
