ok, will be both. Am excited, but also know it will be difficult to adjust. DH's mom is French and he spent lots of time there as a kid, and went to school there. I have visited numerous times but haven't lived in a foreign country. [ Reply | More ]

well I think being afraid would be a very normal reaction, but what a cool adventure you are going to have! Do you speak french? ANd for your kids - how fabulous! I will admit to being a tiny bit jealous ;-) [ Reply | More ]

Yes, I speak french but not that well (am out of practice, sure it will come back though). And I am pg- no dcs yet - which also worries me a bit [ Reply | More ]

what worries you about it? He/she will grow up bilingual and familiar with a fantastic country. How far along are you? Maybe you want to stay here til the baby is born? [ Reply | More ]

I'm only at the beginning of 2nd trimester. I know the healthcare system is good, but I'm worried about being isolated with a new baby in a foreign country [ Reply | More ]

oh, yeah, I can see that. Just make an effort to get out and meet some people. Maybe his work has some sort of "help you get acclimated" program. They must know it's going to be a big adjustment! GL! [ Reply | More ]

There was just a story on NPR about American women going to France to have their babies b/c care is so much better there. [ Reply | More ]

Is that where the twins were born? Though I hardly think with all their money it makes that much difference. [ Reply | More ]

yeah, they were born in France, right? I just meant maybe that was why there was an NPR report about it [ Reply | More ]

Possibly, but it was before they were born & they have been doing stories looking at different countries health care systems - at least I heard two different ones. [ Reply | More ]

LMAO! I'm sure that was on NPR!!! They don't have a political agenda now do they!! Give me a break! Anyone who can afford to go to France to have a baby can afford good health insurance. That is the stupidist thing I have ever heard!!! [ Reply | More ]

They had French Husbands & were denied health insurance in the USA, where they had been living. [ Reply | More ]

denied why? If you are employed and they offer insurance, they pretty much have to take you. If you aren't employed or are self employed then it is harder, but most (and probably all) states have programs to help pg women and children. I don't buy it [ Reply | More ]

Not if you are already pregnant. Also, if you make over a certain HHI you do not qualify for those programs. No one was making anything up - just listen to the stories. One eventually got insurance here, but it was so sh*tty moving to France was a better option. [ Reply | More ]

I can see how that might play out in a few very specific circumstances but it seems odd and very political to do one or more stories on it. Do they do stories on the waiting times for tests and surgery in Canada's failing system? Or Britain's? Just seems like they might have an agenda to me but that's just MHO [ Reply | More ]

They did one on Britain's if I remember correctly. At any rate, it was an interesting story - if your not interested don't listen to it. [ Reply | More ]
