green card question -- what happens with the children who are brought here with their parents when they are little, the parents over stay their visas and the family lives here illegally for years. The kids only know america, go through all their schooling here in america. but then when they are adults, they don't have green cards. Their parents bring them here for a better life, if the kids as adults can't work legally, they are kind of screwed, right? Is there any program for them to apply for a green card? I think there is a way (and should be) for people in that situation to become legal here. I'm a big proponent of keeping illegals out of the country, but that is not the person's fault [ Reply | More ]

yes, there is a program, except if the child commits a crime, like as a teenager. [ Reply | More ]

do you know what that program is? I am worried about this situation with my nanny's child. She was living here when she got pregnany, not married. She went back home, had her child (that was the big mistake) and then came back here. When he was school age she applied for a visa for him and he came here and now, years later, they are still here, but not legally. I know her expectation is for him to get a good education, go to college and get a good job. but he can't if he can't work here legally. [ Reply | More ]

Nope not really, there have been a lot of cases in court lately, I think there is one in CA right now, child was a star student but can't get legal job. It is not easy, marrying a USC is really the only surefire way for OP's situation. [ Reply | More ]
