Need to get over my social anxiety -- poor DS! My 2 YO has made his first friend at daycare. He talks about his buddy all the time when we are home and recounts the stuff they did together at "school". I feel bad bc my first reaction to hearing about the friendship from DS's teachers is "I hope the other kid likes DS as much as DS likes the other kid"! I was pretty shy and anxious all through school and would hate to pass on those feelings to ds (who seems naturally more outgoing & social like DH). Ugh, I guess I thought I'd have more time before having to deal with friendships. Should I tackle my fears and leave a note for the other parent asking for a playdate? Or just let ds have his school friend and leave it at that? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I was a shy kid too but my dds are both very outgoing and social (thank god). Tackle your shyness and ask the other mom for a playdate. My dd had a friend like this at the beginning of preschool. All she could talk about all the time was this girl. They played well together but within 4 mo they were on to other kids to play with. Nice that they still love to play together but aren't on top of each other like before [ Reply | More ]
