My friend is a teacher at a TT. Her dc go to the school, pretty much only because she works there. They are smart and lovely, but let's face it, their admission is her perk. Is this fair? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Of course it is - it is a benefit of the job. All jobs have benefits of some sort. [ Reply | More ]

It is not what we think, it is what we no - being a teacher does not guarantee admission, no more so than for any one else. [ Reply | More ]

what i "know" is this: i work at a private school and admission for faculty children is tacitly guaranteed. you may not want to hear that but it's true. i am currently ttc and will stay at my school so that my future kids can go. [ Reply | More ]

you don't know a thing, you began this post as some one who had a friend at a private as a teacher and now you have morphed into an employee your self, go away. if you don't like the truthful answers you get here then move on [ Reply | More ]

You do not work at a private school this is your friend that you are discussing, it is obvious from each post that you are the same person. I DO work at a private school and you are absolutely incorrect. The truth actually is that you want to promote the idea that the cards for admission to people like yourself are stacked against you in order to make your failing to get in less about you and dc and more about the system. OP: are you referring to me? If so, let me assure you, since my original post I have been reading responses, not responding (until now) and I have not applied at any school to date and was simply throwing out the question! My friend is really more of a park acquaintance and I was thinking about her situation and thought that UB would be a good place to throw it around. Good God. [ Reply | More ]

I work in a private and there are lots of dcs of teachers who go at a reduced tuition and I would call that a major perk. I don't have kids, but if I did, I would love this option. There are have been years when there were about 5 "faculty children" entering one year. This takes 5 spots from the outside world. Is it fair? I don't know, but considering teachers work their butts off and don't get a lot of money for it, I would say they deserve it. [ Reply | More ]

That is a very generous school, not all are like that. My dc didn't get into the private I worked at the year we applied & neither did a df's (different schools). I think it is very fair. [ Reply | More ]

It's a private school. They can set whatever rules they want. Take it or leave it. It's not like teachers make a ton of money anyway! [ Reply | More ]

I think its fair - and I'm sure the kids wouldn't be accepted if they weren't capable of doing the work. The admins and teachers don't get paid high salaries and reduced tuition for dc should be a perk. [ Reply | More ]

I have a good friend who runs dinig services at one of the elite privates. She asked me if I wanted a job with her so I could get tuition covered for dc. My understanding was that dc would have to gain admission on merit. [ Reply | More ]
