I don't know this area but in retrospect I wish we had listened more closely to our Broker when she rec'd certain neighborhoods and streets. I thought I knew better. [ Reply | More ]

I thought brokers aren't allowed to do that? Steer you toward neighborhoods, towns, etc.? [ Reply | More ]

We recently moved to New Canaan and are about 2 miles east of downtown. I've heard a lot of people talk about the benefits of being close to town and the main reasons for that seem to be that it's easy for older kids to ride their bikes or walk to school and into town. Many residential streets close to town have sidewalks, whereas many outside of town don't. We chose to buy just outside for two reasons: 1. We wanted property and many plots outside of town are on 2-plus-acres. The ones in-town are significantly smaller. 2. We have our first child on the way, so the benefits I've heard mentioned will not apply to us for a while. Whichever you choose, New Canaan is a great place to raise a family and all of the people we've met so far have been incredibly friendly and welcoming. Best of luck in your search. [ Reply | More ]

There is definitely a blonde, preppy population but I wouldn't say it's at epidemic proportions. (I'm neither and they let me move here!) Granted, we're new to town, but it seems like NC get's a bad rap on these boards. Most of the people I've encountered have been very down to earth. [ Reply | More ]
