How do privates factor in the mother working or not working, when determining financial aid? If I'm a SAHM and the next family has a working woman, does that affect HHI-related decision? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

HHi is HHI, they don't factor in who works. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, but if a mother stays home and the next family has a working mother, is the family with the non-working mother entitled to more FA, all things considered? [ Reply | More ]

nope. in fact, if the hhi is the same, the family with the sahm is at a disadvantage. [ Reply | More ]

why would an non-working mom be entitled to more financial aid? It should be the other way around, because you don't have to pay for daycare [ Reply | More ]

They are not. But schools want to attract MC families and they don't mind sahms (they figure more involved at school or something). Don't blame the moms, blame the schools wanting these families. [ Reply | More ]

they add an amount of say, $60K or so, for income you could be earning. I think that only counts if you have a young dc at home or aging parent to care for. otherwise, your are expected to work. [ Reply | More ]

Nope you are wrong $60k is way, way too high. They don't add that much. [ Reply | More ]

They figure they are watching the db if you have a db/young kid (toddler). If you don't have a young dc or an eldery to care for, they assume the moms can make at least minimum wage. They add ohh... $15k -$30k to total HHI (artificial income one could make if flipping burgers or something). [ Reply | More ]

Sorry, but wanted to encourage families who think they won't get FA or that asking for FA will get in the way (of acceptance)... [ Reply | More ]
