If your dc started reading very early and on his/her own, how did it evolve? My 16 mo old has become very interested in letters in an ABC book and is now picking a few (especially "O") out of newspapers and magazines that I am reading. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

My 16 month old does this too. So cute. He knows all his numbers from 1-8. Guess it's normal. [ Reply | More ]

People on UB will tell you that everything your kid does it normal. There are a lot of smart kids in NY, so you probably see more advanced skills than you would elsewhere. But, I don't know many 16 month olds that know any numbers. [ Reply | More ]

Really? It's so weird. He just started pointing them all out two weeks ago and now it's his favorite thing to find numbers. He gets so excited. I know I am a vb nightmare right now. He knows a lot of letters as well and can sing the alphabet. He can sing up to D and then makes up letters. I did not teach him any of this. I think he got it from sesame street. Is this advanced? It is advanced compared to most of the milestone charts out there. Babycenter has some and you can find them by searching google. [ Reply | More ]

it evolved out of mere curiosity. She just learned the letters early on and quickly. Then she wanted to know what signs said (she would recognize a lot so I didn't consider it reading). At almost 4yr old she wanted to learn how to read. We sat down and started putting 2 letter words together. Moved on to three letter words, ect. My younger dd is almost 4yr old and asking me to teach her. First let them learn the alphabet, then the sounds, then start putting 2 sounds toghether. Grows from there [ Reply | More ]
