sounds like they're not the friends you thought they were. I'm sorry...in the future, best to keep work and personal relationships/gatherings separate, IMHO and experience. [ Reply | More ]

I have family members who are ghetto, loud, uneducated BUT they are my family. They are good ppl..rough around the edges but good ppl. I don't care what others think of them. Don't bother inviting outsiders to a family event [ Reply | More ]

The best you can do is find the humor in the situation and start laughing about it. See if you can salvage a great story from the wreckage. [ Reply | More ]

there was no music for the first 2 hours-my husband didnt care enough to come and fix it ahead of time so all my invites saw him thrown on the floor fixing a stereo :(, the sternos cooked everyone out in party for the first 2 hours, my friend offered her house so she didnt have enough toilet paper and didnt even mention that we needed, no spoons to serve, the face paint didnt even work and everyone looked bored out of their minds, while my husband hanged outside the house ,and everything was up to me to fix while my world was crumbling and countless other things i didnt see to so i was told [ Reply | More ]

Sorry babe, throwing a 1st birthday party is always for the family-blood and chosen. Cake in the playground when they're 2-3 and small, w/pre-k friends and some family for the next few years. BTW, they aren't too nice if they're dissing behind your back...Try to remember that they nearly all have 'dubious' family members and have all had embarrassing days. Ever heard of nervous laughter? Whomever smelt it dealt it?? Try to laugh about this-they're acting like chimps. [ Reply | More ]

I'm sorry it was such a disaster, but it also sounds a little like maybe you were trying to show off to your friends and it backfired. [ Reply | More ]

I can sympathize with you. It's difficult when your have high expectations for your DC I also got a little in over my head with the 1st b-day. Decided to make the cake myself and it totally flopped on the day of. My parents had to go buy one from the grocery store. MIL got a photographer that didn't show up until the last 5 min. of the party (she told him to take a hike). All in all, it was not a flop but def keeping it much more low key this year. Doubt I will have a big party for DD #2's first b-day. [ Reply | More ]

Actually the description of this party sounds pretty hilarious. Your husband on the floor with the stereo, no toilet paper, and I don't really know what "the sternos cooked everyone out in party." If it were me, if there were drinks for the adults, I think I would just relax and enjoy myself. I mean, it's the company that matters, right? I'd rather go to your party than one where everything seems oh-so-purrr-fect. I bet people had a better time than you think. You have strange co-workers if they told you you have "no couth". It's a funny old-fashioned words and I don't know anyone who uses it. [ Reply | More ]

I agree, and I don't get the whole thing. Is this an east coast party? "Uncouth"? Who are these freaks? A 1-yr old's party is really for the adults and the silly pictures of the baby smashing up cake (baby will recall nothing). So your coworkers can't deal with ppl "below" their extremely awesome status and brilliant ivy educations? Makes me want to puke, what a bunch of snobby losers. I'd find a new job if my coworkers were such jerks. Were there drinks? [ Reply | More ]
