NYC moms, when do you start to pay for dc on the bus, train? Do I have to pay for my 6 yo? TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes, that is correct, although my 6 year old is about this height and I don't pay for her. We take public transportation every day and no one has said anything. Once an MTA employee says something, I guess I'll start paying for her then. [ Reply | More

height is easy to judge vs age, but it is also unfair. It means if you have a short dc they get to ride for free for longer and a tall dc means you have start paying earlier..this could be a 3 year spread in ages. That said, I started paying for my dc when he was 7 and looked ridiculous squeezing under the turnstiles. Only place I don't pay is on the bus coming from Chelsea Piers...the driver just waves all the kids past - usually a lot of them, big and small [ Reply | More
